Marching Percussion - Drumline and Front Ensemble

Drumline
Drumline, also known as Battery Percussion, consists of Snare Drums, Tenor Drums, Bass Drums, and Cymbals. This section serves as the "heartbeat" of the band, responsible for tempo management. They also play cadences while the band marches and in the stands. Our Snare Drum players march "matched grip" to develop skills that will serve them well in a variety of musical contexts. First-year marchers should expect to march with cymbals or a bass drum their first one or two years.

Front Ensemble
Consisting of mallet and auxiliary percussion instruments (tambourine, cowbell, etc.), this section adds a unique color to the band. Members of the Front Ensemble must learn the basics of forward marching, but they do not march during the halftime show; they stand on the front sideline, hence the alternate name of "sideline percussion." Also known as "pit." Because they do not march, they are often responsible for demanding parts. If there are not enough marching cymbal players, members of the pit will play the cymbal parts during pre-game and the march-down.

Auditions
Drumline auditions will be held in the Stevenson band room on Wednesday, May 12, 2027, starting at 3:30 p.m. Individuals interested in performing with the Stevenson drumline or sideline percussion should email Mr. Alessandrini ([email protected] to join the SHS Marching Percussion Google Classroom to be sure you receive the most up-to-date information. Past audition material can be found below.
