There has been a change in the music calendar to which I would like to bring your attention.
The Spring Orchestra Concert has been moved to Tuesday, May 15 at 7p. The String Orchestra will join the bands for a combined concert on May 15.
WIND ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS 2018-19 – WEEK of April 23
Individuals who are interested in performing in the Wind Ensemble next year must audition for admittance. Wind Ensemble auditions will be held in band classes for brass (April 24), woodwinds (April 25), and after school for percussion (April 25). Students will sign up for an audition and must be present on the scheduled date. Adjudicators are brought in for these auditions and they are difficult if not impossible to fairly make up if a student is absent. Individuals will be expected to perform the prepared etude, a 2-octave major scale of their choice, a 2-octave melodic minor scale of their choice, a full range chromatic scale, and sight-read. All audition expectations can be found in the link below. I encourage Wind Ensemble members who would like to continue to perform in the ensemble and all Symphony Band students to audition. Auditions are open to all students who play a concert band instrument. You won’t know if you don’t try!
HUNGRY HOWIES FUNDRAISER
The Music Department spring fundraiser started last week with students receiving information about the Hungry Howie’s ‘Dough’Raiser fundraiser in their classes Monday. Hungry Howie certificates can be purchased for $7 a piece or 3 for $18. All certificates must be paid in full when the order is placed. To make money collection more efficient, the boosters are asking families to collect money for the certificates they have sold and write ONE check to the Livonia Stevenson Music Boosters. While students are not required to participate in fundraising, we hope you will consider sharing this fundraiser with friends and family to support the Music Program at Stevenson. Orders and payment are due in all classes Thursday, April 26. The certificates will be available for pick-up at the May concerts. Individuals who would like to donate in lieu of buying pizza certificates may write a check directly to the Livonia Stevenson Music Boosters, which is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
Please continue to support the music program by shopping at Bushes, Meijer, and Kroger. More information can be found on the music website on the Music Boosters page.
ASSISTANT DRUM MAJOR AUDITIONS
Auditions will be held Wednesday, May 2 from 3-6 p.m. in the instrumental music room. Sophomores who have marched in the marching band for 2 years are eligible for Assistant Drum Major. Individuals must complete an essay and resume and turn it in to Mrs. Wickman by Friday, April 27 at 7:30 a.m. to be considered for continuation on to the audition May 2. Qualifications and audition requirements are available on the music website at:
ASSISTANT DRUM MAJOR
From the essays/resumes submitted on April 27, 3-5 students will be invited to audition on May 2. Individuals who move on to the audition must conduct the National Anthem and fight song, demonstrate proper marching technique, demonstrate voice commands, teach a non-marching band member a specific marching command, and complete an interview. I encourage all sophomore 2nd year members to consider applying. You will never know your potential if you do not try! We need marching band members from 2:45-3:30 p.m. the day of auditions to play SSB and fight song. See Olivia Muench or Alex Chartier to sign-up to participate in the conducting band.
Olivia Muench will be holding drum major prep sessions prior to drum major auditions on May 2. Individuals interested in auditioning for assistant drum major should consider attending to learn conducting patterns and practice calling commands.

CALLING ALL SENIORS! It’s that time of year again. I need your assistance by emailing a childhood and senior picture to firstname.lastname@example.org for the awards banquet. Remember, if you do not get to the pictures first, mom or dad may pick an embarrassing photo for you! If you do not have the ability to scan, bring the original in a clearly marked envelope with your name so pictures can be returned to you. I would like to keep a hard copy of your senior picture.
I am also looking for any pictures from the 2017-18 band and orchestra concerts, marching band camp, football games, Solo and Ensemble, competitions, etc. for the awards ceremony on May 18. Please send any photos you can share to Mrs. Wickman on a CD or as email attachments by April 9. The more photos I receive, the better chance I have to represent all the students throughout the year. We hope you will consider sharing your memories with us.
