To prepare for our Festival performances, we will have a Festival Preview Concert at Stevenson Wednesday, March 1 at 7p. This will be the last time the bands and orchestra will perform in auditorium before demolition in April! The String Orchestra, Symphony Band, and Wind Ensemble will perform on the concert. We hope family and friends will join us for both the Festival Preview Concert (March 1) and our Festival performances (March 2 and 3).
Festival Preview Concert call times:
Symphony Band – 6:30 p.m.
Orchestra - 6:30 p.m.
Wind Ensemble – 6:45 p.m.
The Stevenson String Orchestra (Thursday, March 2), Symphony Band (Friday, March 3), and Wind Ensemble (Friday, March 3) will perform for MSBOA BAND and ORCHESTRA FESTIVAL at Churchill High School. Below are the performance times and a link to the itinerary for each group. Please remember we will need to be at CHS at least 1 hour prior to our performance time for warm-up and at least 1 hour after our performance for sight-reading and ratings. We are in need of parent help with each of the groups. Please let me know if you are available to help with this great music event.
Individuals in Symphony Band must bring or wear complete concert dress to school on Friday, March 3. Symphony Band will be transported to and from Churchill by bus.
Individuals in String Orchestra and Wind Ensemble need to provide their own transportation to and from Churchill. You are also responsible for transporting your instruments to and from Churchill.
PERMISSION (fill out, print, sign, and turn in by Thursday, March 2)
Symphony Band members planning to ride home with a parent after their performance Friday must supply written notice (notes can be written on your permission slip) by Thursday, March 2. Be sure you check out with a chaperone before leaving Churchill Friday so we do not hold up the bus looking for you.

8:00 p.m. Sight Reading (immediately following performance)
8:45 p.m. Individuals need to be picked up from CHURCHILL
- Orchestra members are responsible for transporting their instruments to and from Churchill High School. Be sure you have made proper arrangements to move large instruments such as cellos and basses.
- We are in need of 2 parents to chaperone the orchestra. Chaperones will meet the students in the CHS Field House gym for check in. At the conclusion of our performance cycle, chaperones will need to check students out.
FRIDAY, March 3
SYMPHONY BAND (Itinerary)
1:45 a.m. Band members report to band room in concert dress
3:35 p.m. Warm-up
4:00 p.m. Performance
4:25 p.m. Sight Reading (immediately following performance)
5:45 p.m. Student pick-up at SHS
- We are in need of 1 more parent to ride the bus with the Symphony Band on Friday. If you are available to ride the bus, please contact Jason Nesler (Jason.Nesler@brixmor.com) or me by email.
WIND ENSEMBLE (Itinerary)

Band and Orchestra members, remember I will not be at Stevenson to remind you to bring everything you need (music, equipment, mallets, etc.) and check your concert dress. You will need to help each other and be responsible for your individual schedule the day of Festival. Do NOT bring personal items of value. The coatroom is the gymnasium and will house hundreds of people throughout the day. It is NOT a secure location for cell phones, purses, and personal valuables.

STATE SOLO & ENSEMBLE
Saturday, March 18 at South Lyon HS
Students in grades 10-12 who registered to perform a solo at State Solo & Ensemble are required to perform a proficiency, which includes scales and sight-reading in addition to the prepared solo. Please read the proficiency information in the link below to be sure you are applying for the correct proficiency level. If this is your first year playing a proficiency, you should be registering for proficiency 1. In the document you will also find scale requirements and all extra requirements for piano and percussion. Proficiencies are for SOLOS grades 10-12.
