Mr. Turner and Mrs. Wickman are in the process of planning our next Music Department trip for spring break 2018. We will hold a meeting Monday, May 1 in the instrumental music room to share dates, location, and details. All interested music students (current grade 9, 10, 11) and parents are invited to attend the meeting.
HUNGRY HOWIES FUNDRAISER
The Music Department spring fundraiser started in all classes last week. Students received information about the Hungry Howie’s ‘Dough’Raiser fundraiser in their classes. Hungry Howie certificates can be purchased for $7 a piece or 3 for $18. All certificates must be paid in full when the order is placed. To make money collection more efficient, the boosters are asking families to collect money for the certificates they have sold and write ONE check to the Livonia Stevenson Music Boosters. While students are not required to participate in fundraising, we hope you will consider sharing this fundraiser with friends and family to support the Music Program at Stevenson. Orders and payment are due in all classes Tuesday, May 2. Individuals who would like to donate in lieu of buying pizza certificates may write a check directly to the Livonia Stevenson Music Boosters, which is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
Please continue to support the music program by shopping at Bushes, Meijer, and Kroger. More information can be found on the music website on the Music Boosters page.
ASSISTANT DRUM MAJOR AUDITIONS
Auditions will be held Wednesday, May 3 from 3-6 p.m. in the instrumental music room.
Individuals who have been selected to move on to the audition must conduct the National Anthem and fight song, demonstrate proper marching technique, demonstrate voice commands, teach a non-marching band member a specific marching fundamental, and complete an interview. We need marching band members from 2:45-3:30 p.m. the day of auditions to play SSB and fight song. See Sam Gibbs or Olivia Muench to sign-up to participate in the conducting band.
DRUMLINE AUDITIONS - Thursday, May 25
Auditions will be held in the SHS band room at 3:15p. To access audition materials click here.
Snare Rudiments can be found on the Vic Firth website by clicking here.
To prepare for auditions and start learning battery fundamentals, the Stevenson drumline coach will hold clinics every Tuesday in the Stevenson band room. Below are the dates, times, and locations of upcoming clinics. The clinics are for incoming and returning members. We hope all will participate in this great opportunity.
Tuesday, May 2, 9, 16, 23 (3:30-4:30p) @ Stevenson HS (band room M-12)
COLOR GUARD CLINICS
Color Guard tryouts for the 2017 Marching Band will be held on May 20 at Stevenson High School. To prepare for tryouts, guard leadership will be running clinics on Tuesdays after school at Stevenson from 3:30-4:30p. Be sure to talk to friends who may have dance background or have expressed an interest in color guard. We would love to see a great turn out for tryouts. The clinics are a great way to get experience and knowledge before the auditions on May 20.
INCOMING 9th GRADE INSTRUMENTAL “MEET & GREET”
The Stevenson Instrumental Music Department will be holding an incoming 9th grade "Meet & Greet" Thursday, May 4 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The event is an opportunity for the 8th graders to drop in to the Stevenson music room to meet some of the upperclassmen, play an excerpt of their music for Mrs. Wickman, and gather information for marching band and music classes next year. Please encourage your Stevenson bound students to join us May 4th. Individuals can sign-up for a time through their middle school director.

All classes have now registered for SmartMusic and should be practicing their scales and music selections for assessment. Below are the requirements for each class for the remainder of card marking 4 progress reports.
Students have time during class to complete assessments on the 3 school devices. If an individual would like more time on a device, they can check a device out before or after school or during their lunch for use in a practice room. The time students are assigned during class is to complete the assessments, NOT practice. Therefore, individuals need to practice music sections and scales at home to make the best use of their assessment time. Individuals who may be interested in purchasing a Smart Music subscription to use on a home computer or device can find information here. This would allow individuals to submit tests from home and practice solo, band, and orchestra literature at home with accompaniments. A home subscription is NOT a requirement, but provides many practice benefits to students.
