The next Music Department trip has been planned for spring break 2018. We now have a waitlist for the second bus. If you are still interested in traveling to Disney with the music department, please register to be placed on the waitlist. Once we have enough to formally open the bus, the waitlist will be lifted and you will be officially registered. Our hope is to lift the waitlist in the next couple weeks, but we need more participants to make that happen. We are looking forward to another great music experience for our musicians and families.

In addition to the PDF calendars that are available on the music website, a Google calendar is embedded under the HOME tab of the music website, which can be found here. This calendar includes ALL instrumental music events and will be updated throughout the year.

On Friday, September 29 we will recognize the senior members of the marching band and their parents. Individuals will be acknowledged as they walk the track with their parents before the game. If you are a senior marching band member, please complete the information the form in the link below to ensure you are included in this special event. In addition to senior recognition, the Holmes MS band members will march with the SHS marching band September 29 and we will recognize breast cancer awareness month with the Pink Out game.
GIBRALTAR CARLSON SPECTACULAR – Saturday, September 30, 2017
The Marching Band will be performing in the Gibraltar Carlson Scholastic Invitational on Saturday, September 30 (we will NOT participate in the Alma competition October 7). We will take buses to the competition. Details are available on the music website at the link below. We hope friends and family will consider joining us for a day of fantastic marching band performances.
MARCHING BAND HELP NEEDED
We are still n need of 2-3 more parent drivers to transport marching band leadership to Holmes for rehearsal Tuesday, September 26. If you are available from 9:45-11:45 a.m. Tuesday, please visit the SIGN-UP below to volunteer. In addition to Tuesday’s event, there are opportunities to chaperone our upcoming marching band competitions and assist with this Friday’s game events. If you are available to volunteer your time, please visit the link below to sign-up. If you have not already completed the online district ICHAT required of all individuals who volunteer in the schools, be sure to complete the form at least 2 weeks before the date you plan to volunteer.
MARCHING BAND PRACTICE REMINDERS
As we move forward with marching band season, please make every attempt possible to be at every practice for the scheduled time. Be sure to schedule appointments, work, and lessons outside of practice times as it is very difficult to learn and refine music and drill when individuals are missing. In addition, Mrs. Wickman should be notified in advance of any unavoidable conflicts to determine if the absence will effect the individual’s permission to perform that week. Absence due to sickness or emergency need to be communicated by a parent in a timely fashion.
All instruments must be properly stored after each practice. Instruments must be stored in cases (closed and latched) in lockers or the storage room. No instruments should be left on the floor or unsecured area. Drum line equipment must be in cases stored in the percussion room along with harnesses. Sousaphones must be stored in the percussion room. It is important to be sure all valuables are secured in a locker during marching band practice. Leaving items out in the hallway, in the band room, or in an unlocked locker is inviting theft. Please help remind each other to secure your items properly before heading to the practice field.
Marching Band members be sure to bring instruments, music, dot books, poker chips, and pencils to all practices. Since you will be going to practice after being in class all day, remember to bring appropriate clothes and tennis shoes for marching.
MARCHING BAND PAY-TO-PARTICIPATE FEE
ALL marching band members must pay the LPS $50 fee to participate in marching band. To access the site click on the link below (or copy and paste the link into your browser), or visit the Stevenson home page (http://stevenson.livoniapublicschools.org/), hover over “Activities” and scroll down to Pay to Participate: Marching Band/All-School Play/All-School Musical.
This event is our main fundraiser for the year. Students received information about the fundraiser in the first week of school. While students are not required to participate in fundraising, we hope you will consider sharing this fundraiser with friends and family to support the Music Program at Stevenson. Individuals who cannot donate during the Snap-Raise fundraiser may donate to the music program at any time throughout the year by writing a check directly to the Livonia Stevenson Music Boosters, which is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

The Music Boosters have several restaurant fundraisers coming up. Each restaurant has a slightly different program, so keep your eyes on the Music Notes and our Facebook page for details.
